Freedom Furniture Review: Stylish Australian Living — But Online Orders Need Extra Care
Good design, helpful store staff and a strong 20-year sofa frame warranty, but online delivery problems and strict cancellation rules hurt the experience.

01 Why We Reviewed Freedom Furniture
Freedom was founded in Sydney in 1981 and has become one of Australia and New Zealand’s most familiar furniture and homewares brands. It’s known for modular sofas, sofa beds, dining and bedding with a modern coastal look. In June 2025 its former owner, Greenlit Brands, agreed to sell Freedom to Amart Furniture, which is backed by Quadrant Private Equity. That creates a combined group of about 126 stores and roughly A$1 billion in sales. We found no administration or closure reports.
The honest caveat: online and in-store experiences differ sharply. ProductReview.com.au shows about 4.6/5 from 14,000+ reviews, but the Australian Trustpilot page sits around 1.4/5, mostly over online delivery delays, missing or damaged items, slow refunds and poor communication. Policies are also strict. Change-of-mind returns cover unopened homewares only, not furniture. Cancelling a furniture order after 48 hours gets you only a 65% refund. Delivery is charged by postcode, from about A$160 for large furniture.
